There's a story in The Australian today about Australian paparazzo Jamie Fawcett who is seeking damages from Fairfax Media after being allegedly defamed by a 2005 article in The Sun Herald that claimed he was Sydney's "most disliked freelance photographer" and a "cowboy type" who was determined to "wreak havoc" on Kidman's private life.
Yesterday he took to the witness box in the NSW Supreme Court to defend his professional methods but seemingly shot himself in the foot:
The celebrity photographer agreed there were certain times the famous should be left alone - such as on their honeymoon - but was then asked to justify his decision last year to travel to Tahiti where Kidman and Keith Urban were enjoying their post-wedding holiday. Fawcett told the court that taking pictures of Kidman and Urban getting off the plane in Tahiti was not a breach of their privacy because their honeymoon holiday had not officially begun when he took the photos."It depends when you think the honeymoon starts. An arrival at an airport is (just) an arrival," he said.
Fawcett said he had not bothered the famous couple while they were on their honeymoon, although he did admit hiring a yacht and sailing to within 1km of the part of the island where they were staying. He said he "never set foot on land" and took photos of them using a "very long lens".
"Is that what you call leaving them alone?" asked Fairfax lawyer Tom Blackburn SC.
"Um, yeah," Fawcett said.
Anyway, lest you've forgotten Kidman and Urban reportedly were staying at the St. Regis resort, Bora Bora in the luxury $15,000 a night U.S. Royal Estate (living room pictured on the left)
Looks lovely.
