So, just how does the average multi-billionaire keep the paparazzi at arm’s length on his wedding day? If you’re Google co-founder Larry Page you simply ask a pal if you can borrow his island.

Page, 34, America’s fifth-richest man with a fortune £9.1bn, took over Necker Island, owned by fellow-billionaire Sir Richard Branson, to wed 27-year-old Stanford University student Lucinda “Lucy” Southworth at the weekend.

At one point the guest list was set to include both Bill and Hillary Clinton, a couple of George Bushes, Leonardo Di Caprio and Johnny Depp. Former presidential hopeful Al Gore had to decline – the small matter of collecting a Nobel Peace Prize in Stockholm got in the way.

Taking over the island for the three-day bash cost an estimated £500,000 – it’s uncertain whether or not that included the entertainment - U2’s Bono and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Page’s Google partner Sergey Bin married Anne Wojcicki six months ago in an exclusive ceremony in the Caribbean.
